PINK replaced red for the ladies of Clontarf Hockey Club in their final Leinster League matches of the season. The club's five women's teams abandoned their traditional colours of red and blue to don stylish pink shirts and socks in aid of Action Breast Cancer. Over 55 women paid to play in pink last Saturday week (March 29), with many adding rosy coloured accessories to further highlight the cause. Pink ribbons laced up runners and decorated hair, goalies wore pink helmets, and there was even pink champagne for the ladies’ second team who celebrated winning Division Five of the Leinster League. Clontarf Hockey Club's pink events were organised by the ladies’ first and second team coach Karl McDermott with the help of sponsors Ed Sports and Camden Clothing. "We really wanted to do something to support Breast Cancer in Ireland and thought that 55 hockey-mad women dressed in pink from head to toe might help us do just that," Karl said. "Clontarf members do a lot of fundraising for the club and we thought it was time to give something back by raising money for such a great cause." All monies raised both on and off the pitch will be donated to Action Breast Cancer Ireland. Clontarf Hockey Club has five ladies’ and three men's teams, each competing in the Irish Hockey Association's Leinster League divisions. The club also has a strong youth section with Sunday coaching for the over eights, an under 16 boys’ team and two under 16 girls’ teams at their headquarters in Mount Temple Comprehensive School. |
