mazda2.jpgPhoenix Motors, (JFK Road) and Sandyford Mazda (Sandyford Motor Park) are celebrating the success of the highly acclaimed Mazda2 as it drives home to South Dublin with the title of 2008 World Car of the Year (WCOTY).
From an initial entry list of 39 new vehicles from all over the world, the Mazda2 edged out the Ford Mondeo and Mercedes-Benz C-Class to take the overall 2008 WCOTY title at the New York International Auto Show.
The Mazda2’s fresh and modern styling also placed it in the top three for best car design, together with the Audi R8 and Volvo C30, based on the recommendations of a panel consisting of four highly respected design experts.
“We are absolutely delighted that the Mazda2 has been named World Car of the Year,” enthused David McGonigle, Managing Director, Mazda Motor Ireland

“The new Mazda2 offers motorists a great design and dynamic drive, as well as beneficial running costs with low C02 emissions and excellent fuel economy, achieved by reducing the vehicle’s weight by 100kgs.
Priced from e15,895 (excluding dealer related charges), the Mazda2 is now the class leader in the small car segment. Customers can choose from 1.3L and 1.5L petrol models, which have some of the lowest running costs. Thanks to lightweight development of the Mazda2, C02 emissions are only 129g, while fuel economy of 5.4L/100km is up to 15 per cent less than the previous Mazda2 model.
The WCOTY awards were officially launched in January 2004 and a jury of 47 international automotive journalists selected the overall winner by secret ballot, based on their experience with each vehicle as part of their professional work.
To find out more about the award winning Mazda2 or to arrange a test-drive, call Sandyford Mazda on 2069200 or Phoenix Motors on 4601777.
