Coolmine prove too hot for Spaniards

A WEST Dublin rugby team proved too hot to handle when they hosted a touring Spanish side over the Easter weekend.
Coolmine’s 2nds defeated Quimic 55-5 in Ashbrook last Saturday week.
While the match was a one-sided affair, the visitors showed great skill and determination and never gave up the fight.
Six Coolmine tries in the first half finished the game off as a contest.
However, the scoreline flattered the home side as Quimic had most of the territory and possession.
It took Coolmine 20 minutes into the second half to get on the scoreboard again for the first of their three tries.
However, it was the visitors who had the final say when they scored a last minute consolation try in the corner.
The Catalonian side are currently Division 2 champions in their own region and have gained promotion this year to Division 1.
Prior to travelling to Dublin, they played a match against Instonians in Belfast.
Although rugby is a minority sport in Spain, the players all follow the Six Nations championship with great enthusiasm and know all the star players.
They attended the Leinster v Glasgow match on Good Friday and were delighted to see Coolmine coach and Leinster star, Bernard Jackman, on the sideline for Saturday’s game.
As is rugby tradition both sides retired to the clubhouse for food, drinks, speeches (both in Spanish and English) and presentations.
