Opening of dressing rooms demanded

THE chairman of a Northside football club said he is sick and tired of watching his teams having to change out in the open because of the continued closure of new dressing rooms.
Players from Mid Sutton Football Club have been forced to change on the sidelines on a weekly basis because Fingal County Council has been unable to open the dressing rooms in the grounds of Malahide Castle.
Mick Moyna, chairman of Mid Sutton, told Northside People that the club has been waiting to use the dressing rooms since last September.
“The council keep telling us that there is a snag list which needs to be completed before the dressing rooms can be used,” Mr Moyna said.
“I am tired of having to watch our players, plus visiting teams, having to change into their gear out in the open.”
Mr Moyna said it didn’t do Malahide Castle Demense any justice to have players changing in front of the public.
“It is ridiculous when you consider that Malahide is seen as a scenic town that attracts a lot tourists and visitors,” he argued.
“It can’t be doing the image of the area any good to have a load of men being forced to take their clothes off out in the open.”
Mr Moyna said Mid Sutton has been progressing as a club and it was unfair that the teams had to continue without the dressing rooms.
“We are calling on the council to think of the club here and get the dressing rooms open for everybody that needs to use them,” he added.
A spokeswoman for Fingal County Council said that since the completion of the changing rooms at Malahide Castle, there have been unavoidable delays in opening the facilities.
She said there have also been delays with the electricity connection.
“Our Parks Department has diligently pursued an extensive snag list with the contractor to ensure the facilities are completed to the required standard,” the spokeswoman stated.
“Works outstanding on the snag list are almost entirely completed.
“However, we must be certain that the building is fully and totally accessible and totally safe for members of the public before we make the facilities available.”
The spokeswoman said they hope all the work will be completed in the coming weeks.
“After this, once a fire certificate is provided, we will open the facilities as soon as possible,” she added.
“In the meantime, Fingal County Council would be willing to meet any representatives of the football club on site to go through any outstanding issues with them.”
