A LOCAL film production company based in Churchtown is making huge waves in the movie world as far away as New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.Bootstrap Films, the brainchild of Rathfarnham man John Phelan, has collected awards at film festivals all across America for a new short movie ‘What If’. The 27-minute comedy drama stars Simon Delaney, Hugh Lee and Niall Buggy and features special cameo roles from movie legends John Boorman and Jim Sheridan. Produced by John Phelan and Alan Walsh, ‘What If’ tells the story of two movie stuntmen who have fallen on hard times and are looking for a way out. They decide to write a screenplay - with unforeseen consequences! Alan Walsh, a Northsider from Whitehall, is himself a stuntman with huge experience in the movie business both here and abroad. “It was Alan’s idea to ring John Boorman up and ask him if he’d be interested in appearing in the movie,” revealed John Phelan. “Much to everyone’s surprise he said he’d be delighted after Alan explained that he appeared as a stuntman in Excalibur which was shot in Wicklow and directed by John many moons ago.” After their success in attracting Boorman, John then decided he’d ring Jim Sheridan up and ask him if he’d also appear in the movie. “Jim said he’d love to do it as well, we couldn’t believe our luck,” said John. “Our next step with What If is to develop it further into full length movie and we are currently looking for investors who may be interested.” John Phelan set up BootStrap Films as an independent production company in January 2004, after 20 years working in the film and television industry, nationally and internationally. |
