THANKS to their quick thinking and well rehearsed fire safety drills pupils at a Northside primary school escaped unharmed when their building caught fire last week.
Staff at Scoil Chiarain CBS in Donnycarney praised the children for their safe evacuation when the fire alarm was raised last Wednesday (February 24).
Flames tore through the school’s roof, causing slate tiles to fall from the building just after morning classes began at 10am.
The children were immediately removed to safety while six units of Dublin Fire Brigade attended the blaze.
The school remained closed last week while engineers worked to find the cause of the fire before the building could be safely reopened.
When contacted by Northside People the school said it did not know how the fire, which has left parts of the roof seriously damaged, started.
