By his own admission the drink measure task in Episode 8 was not his finest moment.
But he showed that he is a true warrior as he got to grips with drinkaware.ie’s Christmas campaign.
The campaign offers practical advice and information to help people make the most of the festive season.
A key message communicated through the campaign is what a standard drink is and how long it takes the body to eliminate it.
Speaking at the launch, Fionnuala Sheehan, the chief executive of drinkaware.ie said: “A standard drink measures the amount of alcohol, not the amount of liquid you’re drinking. A glass of stout/lager/cider, or a small glass of wine or a pub measure of spirits is equal to roughly one standard drink.
“So a pint is two standard drinks, and a quarter bottle of wine is also two standard drinks. You can find out exactly how many standard drinks are in your usual tipple using the standard drinks calculator on drinkaware.ie”
Ms Sheehan added: “The thing to remember is that it takes on average one hour for one standard drink to leave your system. There are lots of myths out there about cures and soakage strategies but the only cure is time. It is really important for motorists to be aware of this the morning after drinking, remembering it will save lives.”
drinkaware.ie has produced handy pocket-sized cards explaining what a standard drink is and the length of time it takes the body to eliminate it. These cards will be distributed at Garda checkpoints and will also be displayed in national retailers and petrol stations over the festive season.
For those that are not sure how they will get through the festive period, drinkaware.ie has also launched a Christmas Survival Guide which is full of simple hints and tips for managing your drinking.
Whether you’re hosting a party, organising a night on the town, or worried about overdoing it at the office Christmas ‘do’, the guide, which can be downloaded free at www.drinkaware.ie has all the answers.
