Blackrock clinic undergoes major surgery

Blackrock Clinic has announced plans for a e100 million expansion project due to take place over the next five years.
The scheme, which has been scheduled for late 2009, will create 100 new clinical and administration jobs at the hospital bringing staff levels to over 650.
The leading private hospital is seeking to increase its capacity by 200 per cent to accommodate up to 250 patients a day.
The plans include building a three floor extension to the existing hospital facility as well as adding a multi-storey car park.
Upon completion Blackrock Clinic hopes to be the first major acute hospital to accommodate all inpatients in single rooms with a 42 per cent increase in beds.
Chief executive Bryan Harty explained the importance of the expansion and the need for first class facilities.
“This expansion is testament to our commitment to long term excellence in the delivery of acute surgical, medical and diagnostic services,” he said.
“It will be business as usual for Blackrock Clinic during construction and we plan that there will be only limited disruption to our normal hospital schedules or ongoing patient care.”
Work on the new multi-storey car park is currently underway to provide a total of over 700 much needed spaces.
Local PD representative for Blackrock, Victor Boyhan, has welcomed the expansion of the private facility.
"The more health insured patients take up treatment and care in private facilities, the more space and facilities should become available for patients without health insurance," he stated.
"I wish Mr Harty and the staff of Blackrock Clinic continued success," he added.
The new development will also include new operating theatres, consultants’ rooms, orthopedic facilities, day care and a restaurant.
Currently over 100 medical consultants covering a range of specialities practice from the state of the art consulting suites.
The hospital has been running since 1984 offering both private rooms and a small number of semi-private rooms.
