QUIZ: St Paul’s Secondary School Parents’ Association is hosting a fun quiz night at the Beachcomber Pub, Killester, on Thursday, October 22, at 8pm. A table of four costs e40.

AUTUMN FAIR: The Central Remedial Clinic in Clontarf is holding an Autumn Fair on Sunday, October 11, from 11am to 4pm. Bric-a-brac, books, bread and cakes, accessories, kids’ entertainment and wheel of fortune will be available on the day. All are welcome. 

ARTHRITIS LECTURE: Arthritis Ireland is hosting a free public lecture in the Regency Hotel, Swords Road, on Tuesday, October 13, at 8pm. Professor Geraldine McCarthy, consultant rheumatologist at the Mater Hospital, will lecture about different aspects of arthritis. A question/answer session will follow the lecture. AGM: The committee of St Joseph’s Association for the Intellectually Disabled, Portrane, invite all parents and friends to their Annual General Meeting in the boardroom of St Ita’s Hospital at 11am on Monday, October 5. This will be a very important meeting, with the opening of Knockamann, a new 60-bed building taking place soon. It is a very important support for all the clients of St Joseph’s Service. EXHIBITION: Northsider Pat Carey, multiple Irish Photographic Federation (IPF) gold medal award winner in 2008, is holding an exhibition in Coolock Library for the month of October. Pat is a member of St Benedict’s Photography Group based in Kilbarrack.

ARCHAEOLOGY WALK: An Archaeology Walk 'n’ Talk Tour, led by local historian, Brendan Mathews, will take place on Sunday, October 11, in Gormanstown, County Meath. Not only is it a magnificent landscape woven with legend and ancient places of importance but it also boasts an unspoilt stretch of beach, clear waters and is home to varied species of wildlife. The idea is to bring a book and exchange it for another, free of charge. The aim is to help and encourage more people to read. Since February, Book Exchange has just grown bigger and better, and the extensive collection of adult and children’s books makes finding a book easy. NORDIC WALKING: A new Nordic Walking group is holding walks in the Phoenix Park every Saturday and Tuesday evening. Originating from summer training for cross-country skiers, Nordic Walking works the upper and lower body at the same time, strengthening back, legs and arms, and reducing neck and shoulder tension. Exercise intensity is determined by upper body effort so people of differing fitness levels can walk and talk together, while working to their own level. Full training available.
