A YOUNG Northside girl has received a special award from her school for her perfect attendance record, having never missed a single day in eight years. Kaela Hutton (12), from Bonnybrook, has just finished at Scoil Chaitriona National School in Coolock where teachers were astounded by her achievement. Kaela managed to complete all eight years of primary school without being marked absent once for illness, holidays or any other event. Her mother, Paula Hutton, told Northside People she was incredibly proud of her daughter and hadn’t realised it was a big achievement until the school gave Kaela an award. “She was never really sick and never needed time off,” said Ms Hutton. “She wouldn’t miss a day to go on holidays even. “She was meant to have an operation once but she cried so badly that it was put off until during the summer so she wouldn’t have to miss school. “She just wouldn’t miss school for anything. The doctors were totally shocked with her dedication.” Ms Hutton said her daughter simply loves school and will not miss a single day for any reason. ‘We are going to Florida soon,” she stated. “We wanted to go last week but she wouldn’t even leave school a few days early. “We just had to wait so she could complete her perfect record. “I first noticed years ago that she wouldn’t miss a single day. Most kids are always trying to get time off. “All the teachers know about her great record and I think it’s really well deserved, she earned her award.” Kaela’s younger sister, Keisha, who is in senior infants, is now following in her sister’s footsteps with a perfect attendance record so far. “She might do the same as Kaela,” her mother speculated. “But it is unusual to never get sick. Junior infants are always out sick from school. I am so proud of both of my girls, there is no doubt about that.” “It’s a great record and a great start. Kaela won’t miss anything including her dancing or other classes. She is very dedicated.” Ms Hutton is sure that Kaela will make a great employee someday with her dedicated attendance record. “She will be going into secondary school now and she will have a great attendance record there too I’m sure,” she added. “The school have been absolutely great and really made her feel proud of her achievement; I can’t thank them enough.” |
