DEVESTATED friends of the Blanchardstown teenager who drowned in a Liffey weir last Wednesday afternoon have left touching tributes on her personal social networking website.
Fun loving 16-year-old Kayleigh Flynn became trapped under submerged branches while swimming with friends in the weir at the Strawberry Beds area.
Friends and rescue services personnel worked frantically for over an hour to save the popular teen but sadly their efforts were in vain.
Hundreds of mourners attended the funeral of the youngster who was laid to rest in Mulhuddart last Saturday morning.
Kayleigh, who would have turned 17 on August 31, is survived by her parents Sandra and Terence, sister Jasmine and brother Conor.
Close friends and classmates posted heartfelt messages of sympathy on Kayleigh’s bebo page last week.
“I never ever thought this could have happen,” wrote one friend, who described Kayleigh as his ‘Lil Sis’.
“We really tried so hard to find u in the water, I promise you that.
“We all love you so much and I just hope you are smiling down on us.
“The lights have been flickering, like you said you would come back to us, your smile is still in my head and I can still feel ur arms around me from the other day when we were watching the Lion King. Love you.”
Another pal wrote: “I can’t believe ur gone. U were like my big sis. I was at ur house every day.”
“Well you better look over everyone, we’re gonna miss ye like mad.”
One heartfelt tribute referred to the fact that Kayleigh was fondly known as ‘Kay’ and ‘Squisshy’.
“Reading comments from ur really close friends are so sad. Hope ur keeping them strong,” the friend wrote.
“Kayleigh, what is everyone gonna do without ye? Ye weren’t like most, ye hadn't got a certain group to be with, ye talked to every single person, smiling and hugging everybody.
“In the paper it mentioned what ye wanted to do after school, working with special kids, I remember ur home ec project, ye put so much effort into it, it was amazing.”
One poster wrote of the flashbacks she’d been having since the tragic accident last Wednesday.
“Thinking of ya, well can’t stop, none of us can. Just keep getting flashbacks. They just don’t go away. Still can’t believe it,” she wrote.
“Babe, keep playing with the light, just like ya said ya would.”
Another buddy wrote of going to visit Kayleigh while she was laid out at her family home in Sheepmore.
“I’m coming to ur house like yesterday to see u again. Hope we will have a good talk. I know ur just asleep. All of us are heartbroken.”
Heartbreakingly, Kayleigh’s motto for life, which was posted on her bebo page, was “love life, never regret nothing coz everything happens for a reason x.”
