trinity.jpgSTUDENTS from two of Dublin's top university rowing teams took part in a unique boat race through the River Liffey to mark the start of the Chinese New Year.
The rowers, from Trinity College and UCD joined members of the local Chinese community for a series of dramatic and entertaining Chinese Dragon boat races on part of the city's famous river.
The beautifully ornate, 40-foot long dragon boats took to the River Liffey at the Sean O’Casey Pedestrian Bridge in the Dublin Docklands for the races.
The race between old rivals Trinity and UCD was the main event on the day with Trinity just pipping their opponents at the post to take the title.
The fantastic event proved to be hugely enjoyable for participants and spectators alike, who gathered along the dockside to cheer the teams on.

Adrian McGreevy, brand manager at Tiger Beer, sponsors of the boat race, said they were thrilled to host such a great event.
"We were delighted to be able to bring Asian heritage to life with such a dramatic spectacle as an authentic Dragon Boat Race on the Liffey," stated Mr McGreevy.
