MUSICAL: UCD students and staff perform their version of the Broadway musical West Side Story in O’Reilly Hall from February 14-16.

GIG: A fundraising concert with Damien Dempsey and guests will take place in the Noggin Inn, Sallynoggin, Dun Laoghaire on Saturday, February 23 at 8pm. All proceeds will go to the Rehabilitative Training Unit to be used towards purchasing a much needed minibus to bring trainees on community outings.

MUSICAL: The ‘Flower Drum Song’ by Rogers and Hammerstein is being performed by Transition Year students from Christian Brothers College, Monkstown Park in association with Loreto College, Foxrock from Monday, March 3 – Saturday March 8 in Christian Brothers College, Concert Hall, Dun Laoghaire at 8pm sharp. BALLAD: A ballad session will be held on Saturday, March 29 in the 79'r Pub on Ballyfermot Road. The music will be supplied by the fantastic Paddy Sweeney (former 'Barleycorn') and friends. HOSPITAL VOLUNTEERS: Children in Hospital Ireland is appealing for volunteers for PlayWell, our hospital play service. PlayWell volunteers are needed to organise play activities for the sick children in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin and Children’s Hospital, Temple Street. Volunteers should be over 18 years of age, enthusiastic, caring and reliable, and have two/three hours, either morning or afternoon, once a week (Monday to Friday) to spare. PARENTING: ‘Raising Boys for Fathers’ is a two evening training course, each session lasts two hours, for fathers, step dads or grandfathers. It was developed in recognition of the fact that fathers were not attending generic parenting programmes. As a result the course was developed specifically to address the needs of Irish fathers. HOSPITAL PLAY: Play Well is looking for volunteers for their hospital play services. The volunteers provide play activities for children in hospitals around the city. INDONESIA WALK: The Irish Heart Foundation is challenging eager adventurers to sign up for their 2008 Overseas Sponsored Walk to the stunning Indonesian island of Sumatra. Money raised is used to fund vital research, heart health programmes, CPR training, a national patient helpline and support advocacy for better patient services. FAIR: An Easter craft fair will be held on March 9 from 11am to 5pm in the GAA complex at St Maur's, Rush. There will be between 40 and 50 stalls with different crafts such as jewellery, pottery, designer knitting, real Easter eggs, jams and candles, goods from Madagascar, paintings and photography, flowers and much more. A cafe with light refreshments will be open too. All profits from stall rental will go to charity.

RACE NIGHT: The Donahies Community School will hold a Race Night at O’Toole’s GAA Club, Blunden Drive, on Wednesday, February 20, at 8pm to raise funds for its Romanian Orphanage Project which will take place this summer. The committee would be delighted if local people and past pupils could come along on the night to help support this great cause.

There is a growing demand for this service and to ensure that everyone who needs a meal receives one, an urgent appeal is being made for more volunteer drivers. BOXING: New members are welcome at Bay City Boxing Club. Training takes place on Sundays from 11am to 12.30pm and Wednesdays from 6.30pm to 8pm at Kilbarrack Community Hall, Greendale Road (near Foxhound Pub and Kilbarrack DART Station).

POKER: A poker classic takes place every Thursday and Sunday in Cara Hall (opposite Raheny Garda Station) at 9pm sharp. Everyone is welcome.

TREK: In association with ACARA, Chernobyl Children's Appeal has been offered an excellent opportunity to raise much-needed funds. The Brazilian Trek is an adventure of a lifetime and a great way to support the appeal. ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS: Do you or someone you know have a problem with alcohol? The Killester Group Social Services Care Centre on Sybil Hill holds an open public meeting on the last Monday of every month, except bank holidays. 

GUIDES: The Coolock Girl Guide Unit - Cygnets (5 and 6 years of age), Brigine (7-10), Guides (10–14) and Rangers (15-18) have recommenced meetings. New members are welcome in all sections. SMOKING: Do you want to stop smoking? A nicotine anonymous meeting takes place in the Rutland Centre every Sunday at 8pm.

BOOK CLUB: Are you aged between eight and 12 and enjoy reading? Why not join the Coolock Library Book Club? The club meets on the first Wednesday of each month from 3.30-4.30pm. For further information, phone Coolock Library on 8477781.

VOLUNTEERS: Portmarnock Foróige Youth Club urgently needs adult volunteers to help supervise the club which is involved in various activities and events. The club meets on Mondays from 8 to 9.30pm in Portmarnock Sports and Leisure Centre. BRIDGE: Bridge mornings will take place every Friday from 10am to 12.30pm at Sybil Hill Nursing Home, Raheny (opposite St Paul’s College). All grades of players are accepted and there will be a special section for beginners and novices. For further information contact Peter at 8339797.
