TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern heaped praise on the standard of women's Gaelic football at last week’s launch of the Suzuki Ladies’ Gaelic National Football League 2008.Mr Ahern said the Ladies’ Football Association deserved credit for making great progess in fostering the game. "Ladies’ football has taken major strides and much of this is down to the association," Mr Ahern stated. "The Fundamentals Coaching Course has proved to be a tremendous asset and since I launched last year’s league, 650 coaches have become recognised ladies’ Gaelic football coaches.” Mr Ahern said the many developments in coaching and referee training and fitness would go a long way towards promoting excellence. "Participants will be able to fine tune their skills and players everywhere will reap the rewards," he added. Meanwhile, the Dublin ladies’ football team got their Suzuki 1B league campaign off to a decent start with a hard fought 2-08 to 2-08 draw at home to Monaghan the weekend before last. The Dubs will be hoping to go one better and gain a win when they face a tricky trip to neighbours Kildare in their second game this Sunday, February 17. |
