football07_01.jpgIT'S official. Young girls in Dublin are turning to ladies’ football with 2008 being a record year in the capital for participants.
There are now 57 clubs playing the game, fielding 231 teams in competitions.
Two years ago Dublin Ladies’ Football introduced football at Under 10 level, and currently there are three divisions and 32 Under 10 teams.
A total of 26 clubs now have Under 10 teams playing in the leagues and championships.
The Dublin Ladies’ County Board believes these girls will be the foundation for future development.
Registration figures have grown from 4,400 to a record figure of 5,175, which combines players, mentors and officials.
The appointment of eSportmanager from Castlebar has been a huge development for the Dublin Ladies’ County Board regarding fixtures, results and league tables.
And in 2008 the County Board set up its own Dublin Ladies’ Football website, www.dublinladiesgaelic.ie
The clubs have found this to be an excellent tool with regards to the day-to-day business of the association.
The County Board would like to thank Peter Hickey and Paul McLoughlin for all their hard work on the website.
One of the main reasons for the success in ladies’ football in the capital has been the appointment of Lyn Savage as Dublin regional development officer.
