BALLYMUN Kickhams overcame a defiant Lucan Sarsfields side to emerge victorious from a Division 2 League play-off replay at Pairc Ciceam. Over the whole season the two clubs were neck and neck, and it took a play-off and a replay to eventually separate them. Ballymun Kickhams mentor John Clinton said: “Lucan were by far the best team we have come up against this year. “We won at home, they won at home, and the play-off was a really dogged affair where we scraped a draw. “Either team would have been worthy champions, but we had the edge on this occasion and at last got over the final hurdle.” Indeed these two teams are so closely matched that, before the game, both management teams were discussing what to do if the replay was still a draw after extra time. Meanwhile, Ballymun Kickhams would like to thank a lot of people for their support, and in particular, Uni Credit Bank based in the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) for their very generous sponsorship this year. Mr Clinton added: “It’s great to be able to get new jerseys and gear for the lads. “It encourages them to turn up week in week out, and in these tough times we are very grateful to Uni Credit Bank for their very generous sponsorship.” After this success, Ballymun, along with Lucan Sarsfields, will be looking to push hard for promotion once again next season. |
