TROJAN Gymnastic Club hosted its annual gymnastics competition, ‘The Trojan Cup’, on November 29 and 30 at Newpark Sports Centre, Blackrock. Over 100 girls competed from clubs including the hosts, Sugar Loaf in Wicklow, Janz in Stillorgan, Newpark in Blackrock and Flicflac who travelled from the UK. The competition categories included under 7s, under 9s, under 11s, under 15s and an open competition in disciplines such as asymmetric bars, beam, vault and floor. Winners of the four Trojan cups for the overall highest scores were Kristin McKenna (competition C) and Jordan O'Farrell (competition D), both of Trojan Gymnastic Club, Beth Byrne (Competition B) Flicflac, UK and Chloe Bades (Competition A) Flicflac, UK. The first Trojan Cup competition was organised in 1999 to provide an opportunity for a wide range of gymnasts to compete against their contemporaries. Sandra McDonald, secretary of Trojan Gymnastic Club, said: “It has always been a very successful event and is very rewarding for the competitors as it gives the gymnasts a strong sense of pride and team spirit.” |
