meteor.jpgA NORTHSIDE recording artist is among the nominees for the RTÉ 2fm Hope for 2008 Meteor Award, which will be presented at the prestigious Meteor Ireland Music Awards at the RDS next Friday, February 15.
Leanne Harte, from Sutton, has already notched up a very credible CV that has seen her release three critically acclaimed albums since turning 16.
Highly respected by her ever growing fan base, both at home and abroad, this multi-talented artist is flat out writing new material when she’s not doing worthy charity work in Kenya, touring, or pursuing her many interests such as multimedia studies, graphic design, film and music.
Leanne has the distinction of being the biggest Irish artist on Bebo worldwide. Last year she won the Balcony TV award for Best Female artist.
In a previous interview with Northside People, Leanne spoke of her love for playing live music.
“From playing live, I noticed that my music seems to appeal to a wide audience, from kids to people my age, to adults,” she said. “It’s fantastic to have this.”
Leanne modestly attributes her popularity to good timing, the fact that rock is in at the moment, the variety in her music and a willingness to try new things.

Tory Amos and Led Zeppelin are among the performers that have had a major influence on her career.
“I like a lot of classic 70s rock up until artists of the 90s,” stated Leanne.
“I also like Gemma Hayes and find myself listening to a lot of older stuff.”
However, Leanne is not the only Northside act to be nominated for a Meteor Award.
Swords band The Kinetiks is right up there with her.
On first hearing the band’s debut track, ‘A Smile’d Crack Your Face’, RTÉ 2fm legendary producer, Ian Wilson, booked the Northside four-piece for a live session and described the band as being “a bundle of raw energy”.
The Kinetiks rocked stages around Ireland during 2007, including the Cois Fharraige and Castle Palooza festivals and a sold out Ambassador, supporting The Enemy, along with a slot on the RTÉ 2fm 2moro 2our.
With a new single, ‘Bite The Bullet’, about to be unleashed, their own headline gig at Whelan’s on February 29, a nationwide tour and planned festival gigs for the summer, The Kinetiks are set for an electrifying year.
Another Meteor nominee is Owen Brady, a singer/songwriter and musician from Dublin.
His album, ‘Prepare To Be Happy’, will be released on March 7 on Sony BMG.
The album was recorded in London with producer and Sade keyboard player Andrew Hale. GQ Magazine recently named Owen as one of their ‘Greats for 2008’.
Owen will be touring Ireland in March with dates to be announced.
Irish comedian Dara O’Briain will host this year’s Meteor Ireland Music Awards. Already confirmed to perform are Westlife, Shayne Ward, Sinead O’Connor, Republic of Loose, Gary Lightbody and Lisa Hannigan, Tom Baxter, The Saw Doctors, Cathy Davey and The Coronas, with further performing artists to be announced.
