A NORTH county Dublin family has issued an impassioned plea to animal lovers to help find their pet parrot and dog, which were stolen just five days after they moved into their new home. Carina Archbold, from Swords, has been following up on sightings of her missing African grey parrot, George, around Clonsilla, but is less optimistic about ever seeing her longhaired Chihuahua, Ruby again. The expensive pets were taken during a burglary at the family’s home leaving Carina and her two daughters extremely upset and worried. “I can’t believe somebody stole them from our house; we were only living there five days,” Carina told Northside People. “They went through the back door and took other things as well as the animals, but nothing is more heartbreaking than the pets being stolen. “George is seven-years-old and is grey with a red tail. He is an African grey. We are very worried about him because he stresses a lot when he is not around us. “We have had him for seven years so he was very attached to us. He even speaks with my voice and says things like: ‘Georgie loves his mammy’. He is very well mannered. “He can whistle too and loves to call the cat for its dinner. Whenever anyone’s phone rings, he always says ‘hello’.” Carina rented a cherry picker last week following a tip off that George was in Clonsilla but believes that she was a mere two hours too late to find the distressed pet. “If anyone sees the parrot they should get in touch. He is acclimatised to Ireland but will be getting weaker, making it harder to survive in the wild.” “George is being targeted by other birds so it’s important to find him quickly. He has been surviving by eating the bark off trees.” Meanwhile, Ruby is a three-year-old female longhaired Chihuahua, which Carina says may stand out as it is black and white, an unusual colour for the pedigree breed. “We miss her terribly and we are all absolutely devastated that this could happen,” she stated. “She will reply to the name Ruby if you think you have found her; she is so pretty and a really friendly dog. “Anyone would love Ruby the second they meet her; it’s a horrific crime that someone would steal our family pets.” Carina said the animals were the heart of the house. “I am calling on anyone who has any information to help us out,” she added. “I know animal lovers stick together and there are good people out there who will keep watch for our missing pets.” Anyone with any information as to the whereabouts of George the parrot or Ruby the Chihuahua should contact Carina on 087-2041189. |
