DUBLIN City Council has unveiled a major redevelopment in Donnycarney.
The e4.3 million project at Maypark was undertaken to facilitate the building of new state-of-the-art senior citizen accommodation called Clanmaurice Court.
The project also involved the development of a multi-use games area that includes a children’s playground, playing pitches and changing facilities for football clubs at the park.
Speaking at the launch, Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr Eibhlin Byrne, said there was no more important mark of a community than the commitment it shows to its older people and the care given to its young.
“With its redevelopment, Maypark provides quality housing in the heart of community activity,” stated Mayor Byrne.
“By drawing our young and older citizens together in quality surroundings, Dublin City Council have done much for social cohesion.
“I believe this is truly the way forward for this area, which I represent and our city.”
The senior citizen accommodation at Clanmaurice Court consists of 24 bungalow style units that were designed by the city council.
They are part of a long-term redevelopment and replacement strategy throughout the city that focuses on the upgrading of existing complexes that have bed-sit type accommodation, with new units that include one or two bedrooms.
The strategy also focuses on the need to enhance support and care services for the elderly.
Support services being provided at Clanmaurice Court include hot meals, which are provided by St John’s Court and a minibus to bring the residents to this location.
The multi-use games area and the playground within the park, which are separated from Clanmaurice Court by a small entrance road, have helped the park to reach its full potential and are a big hit with the local children and residents.
