7titles.jpgNAOMH Mearnóg–St Sylvester's captured the Senior All-Ireland Sevens title on September 27.
The tournament, which has been running since 1985, is the curtain raiser to the All-Ireland county finals.
Naomh Mearnóg and St Sylvester's from the parishes of Portmarnock and Malahide hosted this year’s event.
The clubs are close neighbours and play as an amalgamated team in Dublin competitions. This Naomh Mearnóg–St Sylvester's team tasted All-Ireland success in 2006 when they won the Intermediate Club Championship.
The hosts played Clann Eireann of Armagh in a thrilling final and narrowly prevailed by two points, 2-7 to 2-5.
A huge crowd assembled for the decider as news quickly spread that Naomh Mearnóg–St Sylvester's had reached the final, and they were not disappointed, as they were treated to a gripping game of skilful football.
Meanwhile, in the Shield Senior Final another Dublin club, Na Fianna, was successful. This particular title had eluded Dublin clubs since 1985.
Uachtaran, Cumman Peil Gael na mBan Geraldine Giles, presented the cup to Naomh Mearnóg–St Sylvester's captain and Dublin goalkeeper Cliodhna O’Connor.
As usual, the event was run like clockwork considering the logistics with over 900 players, 40 referees and spectators to cater for.
Ms Giles thanked all those who worked behind the scenes, the organising committees and members of Naomh Mearnóg and St Sylvester's for the use of their wonderful facilities and co-operation in running the tournament.
