barrable.jpgROBERT Barrable had a dream result at Mondello Park last month when he clinched the domestic Formula Ford 1600 title and went on to win the coveted Leinster Trophy.
Barrable lined up alongside title rival Patrick McKenna on the front row of the grid for the last round of the Irish series and the pair swapped places numerous times on the Mondello International circuit.
McKenna took the win but young Barrable knew second was all he needed to win the most competitive single-seater championship in the country.
“I could have had another go at Patrick, but I knew what I had to do to take the title and it all worked out perfectly,” he said afterwards.
For the Leinster Trophy race, Barrable’s Michael Barrable Motors & Worldwide Cars backed Swift was on pole position and with the rain pouring down, he led the pack away.
On the run down to turn one, McKenna appeared to loose control under braking and made brief contact with the back of Barrable’s car before parking in the gravel trap, his race over.
By the end of lap one, Barrable had already pulled out an incredible five second gap over the rest of the field, and that’s how it continued for the duration.
He completed a perfect weekend by crossing the line almost 20 seconds ahead of his nearest challenger to take the most dominant Leinster Trophy win in many years.
To top off a great weekend for the Barrable family, Robert’s brother Peter, finished third and joined his brother on the podium!
“I was confident I could do the job once the rain came,” said Robert.
“And it’s fantastic to lift the same famous trophy that was previously won by names like Ayrton Senna and Mika Hakkinen.”
