Adult education centre celebrates results PDF Print E-mail

A COMMUNITY based adult education centre in Kilbarrack was celebrating success again last week when a group of mature students collected their Junior Cert results.
KLEAR has helped locals like Betty Smith, Mary Lillicrap, Patricia O'Meara, Gabrielle Byrne and Tess Scanlon sit exams they may have missed in their youth and encourages learning for mature and retired people.
Literary service organiser for the centre, Rose Brownen, was thrilled to see 15 students all receive honours in their exam.
“We had 15 students in their 40s, 50s and 60s who sat their English exams here and every single one got an honour,” she told Northside People.
“There was great excitement on the day with tears, hugs, kisses and emotions flying everywhere.
“Everyone was a winner and now we want more people to get in touch and come along.”
KLEAR student Winnie O’Donnell (68) recently received her Leaving Cert English results having completed her Junior Cert at the centre two years ago.
She is encouraging all of the current Junior Cert recipients to continue with their education and said it’s a great way to build confidence.
“I did a number of Junior Cert subjects before going on to do the Leaving Cert at 68,” she told Northside People.
“Now everyone who did the Leaving Cert is going back to do more subjects in October because we enjoyed it so much.
“I would recommend any older women who are interested in adult education to get down to the centre.
“I would like to congratulate the recent Junior Cert students too and would entirely recommend going on to study further,” added Winnie.
KLEAR invites anyone interested in further education to drop into the centre any morning between 9.30am and 1pm during term time to see what they are about and find out if they have a course to suit.
The service is free to those who left school early and feel their skills in general education are lacking or out of date.
Courses are offered in the following friendly and confidential settings: one-to-one tuition, groups and small classes.
