musicans.jpgTWO emerging Northside acts have been shortlisted as finalists to take part in the final stage of a music competition.
The ‘Eircom Unsigned Bands’ competition winners will be offered a once in a lifetime opportunity to record their music in the world-renowned Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin.
Malahide woman, Kathy Mills, with her track ‘Over-Rated’, along with Coolock and Donaghmede-based four-piece, Saccade, and their track ‘Cirrus’, have made it to the shortlist as two of five final acts selected by a panel of expert judges from over 150 entries received from around the country.

Singer songwriter Kathy Mills began her performing career at the tender age of three when she started Irish dancing and hasn’t looked back since.
She was selected for the final stages of an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical before touring Europe as a female vocalist in an Irish Dance show.
Describing her musical style, Kathy said it has a jazzy, chill-out vibe mixed with contemporary pop.
“I enjoy crossing over musical styles to make things interesting,” she said.
Saccade is a four-piece independent rock outfit, which formed in 2006.
And if their musical influences are anything to go by, this band is going to go straight to the top of the music pile.
They cite their musical influences as The Beatles, Nirvana, Elbow, Queens of the Stone Age, PJ Harvey, Nick Drake and many more.
On foot of the early success of artists such as Damien Rice and David Gray, the band recently released its self-financed debut EP, ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’, and are confident it will prove worthwhile.

Music fans however, will have the final say in deciding the winning entry in the successful competition.
Members of the public can log onto music.eircom.net, listen to all five entries and vote for their favourite.
The act with the most votes will win the studio session in Windmill Lane Recording Studios.
Commenting on the shortlist, Dervilla Mullan, Head of Eircom Online, said the standard of entries was exceptionally high.
“There’s a lot of unique talent out there and the competition was very strong,” said Dervilla.
“It was difficult for the judging panel to narrow it down to a shortlist but I think we have the right combination of fresh sounds and original talent in the final five.
“Eircom is delighted to give these musicians a platform to open their music up to a wider audience.
“It’s up to members of the public to decide the winner now and we wish Saccade, Kathy and the other three finalists the best of luck," added Dervilla.
The competition officially began on January 24 and music fans can log onto music.eircom.net and select their favourite track.
It will run for three weeks and close at 5pm on Wednesday, February 13, so you are advised to get your votes in now.
