tournament.jpgIF you played 5-a-side soccer at Astropark, Coolock, last Saturday week (September 6), you may have been surprised to see some former Premiership legends showcasing their skills on the pitch next to you.
The inaugural Sue Ryder 5-a-side Legends Tournament took place, with a host of Premiership All Stars playing against, and chatting with the participants of this charity event.
Guests included Ray Parlour (Arsenal), Phil Babb (Liverpool), Paul Parker (Man United), Kerry Dixon (Chelsea), David Speedie (Chelsea), Bob Boulder (Liverpool) and Steve Sedgley (Tottenham).
Paul Murray, a member of staff at Northside People, entered a team into the event and they incredibly beat the Legends team in a pulsating final by four goals to two.
The youth and pace of the talented 5-a-side team was too much for the legends to handle and the large crowd of spectators were delighted to see the local lads take the upper hand in the match.  Goalkeeper Karl Donnelly took the Man of the Match award.
The Sue Ryder Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to helping older people live safely, securely and independently, with a choice of services to suit all needs.
This event was the first 5-a-side Legends event to be held in Ireland and it has been announced that the exciting event will now be run annually. For more details, visit www.sueryderfoundation.ie
The Sue Ryder Foundation would like to thank the management of Astropark, Coolock, for running such a fantastic event, Eoin McDevitt (Newstalk 106), MC for the day, and Jameson Whiskey for their generous sponsorship.
The soccer event was wrapped up with drinks and a barbecue in the Astropark Sports Bar, where a huge crowd cheered the Northside People team as they lifted the cup.
The winning team that defeated the Premiership Legends to win the first ever Sue Ryder Cup in Ireland comprised Paul Murray (captain), Noel Downey, Karl Donnelly, Paul O’Neill and Keith Barry.
