MINISTER for Lifelong Learning and Dublin North Central TD, Sean Haughey, said he has received clarification from Beaumont Hospital that it is hoped that the new 100-bed community nursing unit on a site at St Joseph’s Hospital, Raheny, may be operational as a public long-stay facility by the end of June. “This date is, however, conditional on complying with requirements under the Health Act 2007 and the National Quality Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland,” stated Minister Haughey. “The coming on-stream of an additional 100-bed long-stay unit will be welcomed by all, particularly those in our communities considering placement for elderly relatives. “Although there is a requirement under the Fair Deal Scheme to move to a suitable care setting within 10 days of approval, the HSE does operate a transfer list meaning it may be possible to transfer to St Joseph’s once it becomes operational.” Minister Haughey said the news would also be of interest to those who are currently investigating the availability of nursing home places and would like to remain in this area. “I would like to compliment Beaumont Hospital on this important development,” he added. |
